SPARC Leadership Series is an all expenses paid mentorship program for high school students from underprivileged and underrepresented program. Scholars will be introduced to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), professional development, and giving back.

Orientation Day


The SPARC Leadership Series kicks off with Orientation Day, featuring an entire lineup of keynotes, speakers, and workshops. These sessions are thoughtfully designed to incorporate both theories and practice. Sessions are led by experienced facilitators and industry leaders. Speakers include leaders from Apple, Google, LinkedIn, Facebook, Forbes 30 Under 30 list makers, and established startups, nonprofits, and institutions.


Embrace

Sessions on resilience, diversity & inclusion, and accessibility. Covering topics on growth mindset, resilience, storytelling, women in STEM, first generation professionals, and navigating imposter syndrome.

Create

Sessions on professional and personal development. Covering topics on resume & portfolio, personal brand, interviews & internships, and setting goals through design thinking.

Grow

Sessions on cultivating relationships, mindfulness, and giving back. Covering topics on mentorship, Michelangelo phenomenon, giving back panel, mindfulness, gratitude, and group service activity.

Bootcamp Program


After Orientation Day, scholars enter a three-month bootcamp program where they will be paired up with a mentor and a network of collaborators. Scholars will have the opportunity to define a project they would like to work toward from start to finish. This project can be a personal or professional goal, however big or small. For example, becoming a better public speaker, landing an internship, or even starting a small business. Scholars will be guided and supported by their mentor and the SPARC’s network throughout the bootcamp program.

Orientation Day will be hosted in San Francisco, CA. Due to limited resources, we are only able to accept students from local Bay Area high schools at the moment. Orientation Day is currently catered to students from underprivileged and underrepresented background. Students from these communities are highly encouraged to apply: low-income, first generation, marginalized groups, AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination).

  • Interest in learning about STEM, personal and professional development, and giving back
  • Currently a junior or senior attending a high school in one of these Bay Area’s counties: Alameda County, Contra Costa County, Marin County, San Francisco County, San Mateo County, Santa Clara County
  • Ability to attend and participate for the full duration of Orientation Day on Saturday, 6/15/2019, from 9am-7pm
  • Active participation in the entirety of the Bootcamp Program for three months.
  • Complete the SPARC Leadership Series Application by deadline (3/20/2019, 11:00p)

Acceptance to the program will based on attitude over aptitude. For this reason, we did not ask for your current GPA or high school transcript.
